This creamy, spicy, and cheesy buffalo chicken dip features a fun spider web design that makes it perfect for Halloween parties. It’s easy to make, uses simple ingredients, and is always a crowd-pleaser.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups cooked chicken, shredded (rotisserie chicken works well)
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • ½ cup buffalo sauce (e.g., Frank’s RedHot)
  • ½ cup ranch dressing
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese, divided
  • ½ cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 tablespoon ranch seasoning mix (optional)
  • ¼ cup sour cream or cream cheese, thinned with milk for the web
  • Black olives, sliced (optional, for spider decoration)
  • Tortilla chips, celery sticks, or crackers for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Shred the cooked chicken into bite-sized pieces using two forks.
  3. Soften the cream cheese by letting it sit at room temperature for 20 minutes or microwaving for 15-20 seconds.
  4. In a mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, buffalo sauce, ranch dressing, sour cream, and ranch seasoning mix. Blend with a hand mixer or wooden spoon until smooth.
  5. Fold in the shredded chicken, ¾ cup of cheddar cheese, and all of the mozzarella cheese until evenly distributed.
  6. Transfer the mixture to a greased 9-inch pie dish or small baking dish and spread evenly with a spatula.
  7. Sprinkle the remaining ¼ cup of cheddar cheese over the top.
  8. Bake for 20 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the edges are slightly browned.
  9. Remove from the oven and let cool for about 2 minutes. In a small bowl, mix ¼ cup sour cream with a splash of milk until thin enough to drizzle. Transfer to a small zip-top bag, snip off a tiny corner, and pipe a spiral pattern on top of the dip. Use a toothpick or skewer to drag lines from the center outward, creating a spider web effect. Wipe the toothpick clean between each line.
  10. Optionally, place sliced black olives on top to resemble spiders.
  11. Serve immediately with tortilla chips, celery sticks, or crackers.

Notes

For best results, use room temperature cream cheese and shred your own cheese. The dip can be assembled up to 24 hours ahead (without the spider web design) and refrigerated; add 10 minutes to baking time if starting cold. The spider web design should be added after baking. For a milder version, reduce buffalo sauce to ¼ cup and add extra sour cream. For extra heat, add more buffalo sauce or cayenne pepper.
