A simple, 5-ingredient style dessert featuring tart apples and a crunchy oat-pecan topping. Perfect for weeknights or hosting, this crisp delivers maximum flavor with minimal fuss.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 67 medium apples (mix of Granny Smith and Honeycrisp), peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (plus extra for topping if desired)
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1 cup old-fashioned oats
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, toss sliced apples with sugar, cinnamon, vanilla, and salt. Let sit for 10 minutes to release juices.
  3. Transfer apple mixture to a 9×9 inch baking dish and spread evenly.
  4. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, oats, and pecans. Add cold cubed butter and mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  5. Sprinkle the topping evenly over the apples and press down gently.
  6. Bake for 35-45 minutes until the crust is golden brown and juices are bubbling. Cover with foil if browning too quickly.
  7. Cool for at least 15 minutes before serving.

Notes

For a flakier topping, use cold butter. Toast pecans for extra flavor. If using frozen apples, thaw and drain excess liquid first. Can be made gluten-free with 1:1 flour blend and dairy-free with vegan butter.
