  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ยฝ cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

  • ยฝ teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups confectionersโ€™ sugar, sifted
  • 34 tablespoons real maple syrup
  • 12 tablespoons heavy cream
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, beat the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy (about 3-4 minutes).
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed just until combined. Do not overmix.
  5. Divide the dough into two disks, wrap tightly in plastic wrap, and chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
  6. Preheat oven to 350ยฐF (175ยฐC) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  7. Roll one disk of dough on a lightly floured surface to about ยผ-inch thickness. Cut into shapes or roll into 1-inch balls.
  8. Place cookies on baking sheets, leaving 2 inches between each. Bake for 12-15 minutes until edges are lightly golden.
  9. Let cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  10. While cookies cool, whisk together confectionersโ€™ sugar, maple syrup, heavy cream, and a pinch of salt until smooth and drizzle-able.
  11. Drizzle the maple icing over the completely cooled cookies and let set for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

Ensure butter is softened to room temperature but not melted. Chill dough to prevent spreading. Use real maple syrup, not pancake syrup, for best flavor. Cookies can be frozen for up to 3 months before icing.
