This Easy Apple Cider Sangria with Cinnamon Sticks is a simple, crowd-pleasing fall drink made with crisp white wine, fresh apple cider, and warm spices. It comes together in minutes and is perfect for gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 bottle (750 ml) dry white wine (Pinot Grigio or Sauvignon Blanc)
  • 2 cups (480 ml) fresh apple cider
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) apple brandy or bourbon
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) maple syrup or honey
  • 2 medium apples (Honeycrisp or Fuji), thinly sliced
  • 1 large orange, thinly sliced into rounds
  • 45 cinnamon sticks
  • 23 whole star anise (optional)
  • 12 tablespoons brown sugar (optional)
  • Ice cubes, for serving
  • Fresh apple slices and cinnamon sticks, for garnish
  • Sparkling water or ginger ale (optional, for fizz)

Instructions

  1. Wash the apples and orange thoroughly. Cut the apples into thin slices or small bite-sized chunks, leaving the skin on. Slice the orange into thin rounds, removing any seeds.
  2. In a large pitcher, combine the white wine, apple cider, apple brandy or bourbon, and maple syrup or honey. Stir gently with a wooden spoon until the sweetener is dissolved. Taste and add brown sugar if desired.
  3. Add the cinnamon sticks, star anise (if using), apple slices, and orange rounds to the pitcher. Stir gently to distribute.
  4. Cover the pitcher and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, preferably 4-6 hours or overnight, to allow flavors to meld.
  5. About 30 minutes before serving, remove the pitcher from the fridge. Stir gently. If desired, add a splash of sparkling water or ginger ale for fizz.
  6. Fill glasses with ice cubes. Pour the sangria over the ice, including some fruit and a cinnamon stick in each glass. Garnish with fresh apple slices or extra cinnamon sticks.
  7. Serve immediately and enjoy.

Notes

For best flavor, let the sangria chill for at least 4 hours or overnight. Use a dry white wine to balance the sweetness. Toast cinnamon sticks in a dry pan for 30-60 seconds for deeper flavor. Serve over ice in individual glasses to avoid diluting the batch. Leftovers keep in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
