This easy sheet-pan salmon with lemon garlic butter is a quick, flavorful weeknight dinner that comes together in under 20 minutes. The salmon is perfectly flaky and moist, with a rich lemon garlic butter sauce that caramelizes beautifully.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 salmon fillets (6 ounces each, skin-on or skinless)
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 lemon, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ยฝ teaspoon black pepper, freshly ground
  • 1 teaspoon dried dill (or 1 tablespoon fresh dill)
  • Optional: fresh parsley, for garnish
  • 1 bunch asparagus, trimmed (optional)
  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (for vegetables, optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste (for vegetables, optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400ยฐF (200ยฐC). Position the rack in the center of the oven. Line your sheet pan with parchment paper or foil for easy cleanup.
  2. In a small bowl, combine the melted butter, minced garlic, fresh lemon juice, salt, pepper, and dried dill. Whisk until well combined.
  3. Pat the salmon fillets dry with paper towels. Place them on the prepared sheet pan, skin-side down if using skin-on fillets. Drizzle olive oil over the top and rub it in gently. Season with a pinch of salt and pepper.
  4. If using vegetables, toss the trimmed asparagus and cherry tomatoes with olive oil, salt, and pepper. Arrange them around the salmon fillets on the sheet pan.
  5. Spoon the lemon garlic butter evenly over each salmon fillet. Drizzle a little over the vegetables too. Place the lemon slices on top of the salmon and around the pan.
  6. Bake for 12-15 minutes, depending on the thickness of the fillets. For a 1-inch thick fillet, 12 minutes gives medium-rare; 15 minutes for well-done. The salmon is done when it flakes easily with a fork and the internal temperature reaches 125ยฐF to 130ยฐF for medium-rare, or 135ยฐF to 140ยฐF for well-done.
  7. Let the salmon rest on the pan for 2-3 minutes.
  8. Squeeze a little extra fresh lemon juice over the top, garnish with fresh parsley or dill if desired, and serve immediately. Spoon any extra lemon garlic butter from the pan over the salmon and vegetables.

Notes

Pat the salmon dry for better browning. Don’t overcrowd the pan; use two sheet pans if needed. Let the salmon rest for 2-3 minutes after baking. For dairy-free, substitute butter with olive oil. For a spicy version, add ยฝ teaspoon red pepper flakes to the butter mixture.
