Spider Deviled Eggs - featured image

These spider deviled eggs are a fun and easy Halloween appetizer that looks impressive but takes almost no extra effort. Creamy, tangy deviled eggs topped with olive spiders that kids and adults both love.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 large eggs (hard-boiled and peeled)
  • 1/3 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 teaspoon yellow mustard
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika (plus more for garnish)
  • 12 large black olives (pitted)
  • 24 small black olives (or 12 more large ones)

Instructions

  1. Hard-boil the eggs: Place eggs in a single layer in a large pot, cover with cold water by 1 inch. Bring to a rolling boil, cover, turn off heat, and let sit for 12 minutes. Transfer to an ice bath and cool completely (about 10 minutes).
  2. Peel the eggs: Crack eggs all over by rolling on the counter, then peel under running cold water.
  3. Cut and prepare egg whites: Slice each egg in half lengthwise. Remove yolks to a medium bowl. Place egg white halves on a serving platter, cut side up.
  4. Make the filling: Add mayonnaise, yellow mustard, white vinegar, salt, pepper, and paprika to the yolks. Mash with a fork until smooth.
  5. Fill the egg whites: Spoon filling into a piping bag or zip-top bag with a corner snipped off. Pipe filling into each egg white half, mounding slightly above the edge.
  6. Make spider legs: Slice the 24 small olives (or 12 large ones) crosswise into thin rounds (about 8 slices per large olive, 4 per small olive). Pat dry with a paper towel.
  7. Make spider bodies: Cut the 12 large olives in half lengthwise. Each half becomes one spider body.
  8. Assemble the spiders: Place one large olive half (cut side down) on the filling in the center of each deviled egg. Arrange 4 olive leg slices on each side of the spider body, pressing them slightly into the filling.
  9. Chill and serve: Refrigerate for at least 15 minutes before serving. Sprinkle with paprika just before serving.

Notes

Use eggs at least a week old for easier peeling. Pat olive slices dry to prevent sliding. Chill assembled eggs for 15 minutes to set. Can be made ahead: boil eggs and make filling up to 2 days ahead; assemble no more than 6 hours before serving.
