These spooky witch finger pretzel rods combine salty pretzels with creamy white chocolate and almond fingernails for a fun Halloween treat that’s quick and easy to make.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 24 pretzel rods
  • 12 ounces white chocolate melting wafers or white chocolate chips (about 2 cups)
  • 1 teaspoon coconut oil or shortening
  • ยฝ cup slivered almonds
  • Red food coloring or edible marker (optional)
  • Orange and black sprinkles (optional)
  • Edible glitter or luster dust (optional)

Instructions

  1. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat. Arrange pretzel rods nearby and place slivered almonds in a small bowl.
  2. Place white chocolate chips or melting wafers in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 30-second intervals at 50% power, stirring well after each interval, until completely smooth (about 2 to 3 minutes). If using coconut oil, add it before microwaving.
  3. Test the chocolate temperature by dipping a clean finger into it; it should feel warm but not hot. Let cool if too hot.
  4. Hold a pretzel rod by one end and dip the other end into the melted white chocolate, covering about two-thirds of the pretzel. Gently twist as you pull it out to remove excess chocolate.
  5. Place the dipped pretzel on the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each one. Work quickly as the chocolate sets.
  6. While the chocolate is still wet, press a slivered almond gently into the chocolate at the tip of the pretzel, with the pointed end sticking out like a fingernail. Use tweezers or fingers.
  7. Before the chocolate sets completely, use a toothpick or knife tip to draw small lines on the chocolate to mimic knuckle wrinkles (about three small lines halfway down the chocolate-covered part).
  8. Place the baking sheet in the refrigerator for 15 to 20 minutes, or until the chocolate is completely firm.
  9. If desired, use a tiny paintbrush dipped in red food coloring to add a small red line at the base of the almond fingernail for a creepy effect.
  10. Return the pretzels to the refrigerator for another 5 minutes to set the food coloring if used. Serve at room temperature.

Notes

Don’t overheat white chocolate; it burns easily. Work in small batches (6-8 pretzels at a time) to prevent chocolate from setting. Let chocolate set completely before adding details. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week; do not refrigerate after initial set to avoid condensation.
