A quick and easy 20-minute dinner featuring juicy ground beef patties topped with a rich, caramelized glaze made from bourbon, brown sugar, and Dijon mustard.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 lbs ground beef (80/20 blend)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup bourbon
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon oil (for skillet)

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan, combine bourbon, brown sugar, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, and apple cider vinegar. Whisk over medium heat and simmer for 5-7 minutes until reduced by half and thickened. Remove from heat.
  2. In a bowl, gently combine ground beef, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Do not overmix. Divide into four equal portions and shape into patties, making a small indent in the center of each.
  3. Heat a large cast iron skillet over medium-high heat. Add oil if necessary.
  4. Place patties in the hot skillet and cook for 4-5 minutes without moving to form a crust. Flip and cook for another 3-4 minutes.
  5. Brush a generous layer of the prepared glaze over the top of each patty. Cook for the remaining time until the glaze bubbles and sticks. Add cheese if desired and cover for 30 seconds to melt.
  6. Remove burgers from the pan and let rest for 2 minutes before serving on toasted buns.

Notes

Reduce the glaze first to prevent burning. Do not press the patties while cooking to retain juices. Aim for an internal temperature of 160ยฐF (71ยฐC). If the glaze gets too thick, add a teaspoon of water.
